Tariffs are significantly affecting cargo transport at the Port of Los Angeles, according to Executive Director Gene Seroka. Truckers are now hauling fewer containers than before the April tariff announcements, with a notable decrease in cargo volumes in May, down 5% year-over-year and 19% from April. The California Trucking Association highlighted that reduced goods mean fewer truck drivers needed. Despite expectations for a summer surge in imports, Seroka has not seen evidence of increased cargo activity. He warned that without stable trade agreements, consumers could face higher prices and limited product selection during the holiday season.
