Starting June 23, a 50% tariff on the steel and aluminum content of various imported appliances, including refrigerators and washing machines, will be implemented, following a notice from the U.S. Commerce Department. President Trump increased these tariffs to counteract foreign competition in the steel and aluminum markets. While most U.S. appliances are domestically produced, the tariff may lead to price hikes from manufacturers and retailers. Companies like Electrolux are already planning price increases, while others, such as Home Depot and Lowe’s, aim to mitigate costs through domestic sourcing.
