On June 18, maritime contractor Van Oord launched its new offshore wind installation vessel, Boreas, named after the Greek god of the north wind, in a ceremony led by Mayor Carola Schouten in Rotterdam. At 175 meters long, Boreas features a 155-meter crane capable of lifting over 3,000 tonnes and is equipped with four 126-meter jack-up legs for deep water operations. It is the largest vessel of its kind and runs on methanol, significantly reducing emissions. After the ceremony, Boreas departed for the German North Sea to help construct the Nordseecluster wind farm, expected to supply renewable energy to 1.6 million households.
