In April, total air cargo demand increased by 5.8% compared to the previous year, with international operations rising by 6.5%. Capacity also grew by 6.3% overall and 6.9% for international flights, according to IATA. Director General Willie Walsh noted strong demand driven by seasonal needs and lower jet fuel prices, resulting in an optimistic outlook. Regionally, Asia-Pacific saw the highest demand growth at 10%, followed by Latin America at 10.1%. North America, Europe, and Africa experienced more modest increases, while some routes like Middle East-Europe faced declines.
