The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Worley Consulting reveal that the aviation sector has sufficient sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) feedstock to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, provided production is prioritized. However, significant challenges, such as scaling production technologies and securing necessary feedstocks, must be addressed. Airlines will require 500 million tonnes of SAF annually by 2050, with biomass and power-to-liquid technologies playing crucial roles. IATA leaders stress the urgency for coordinated efforts among governments, investors, and the aviation industry to accelerate SAF development and investment.
