Hot and dry weather in the U.S. South and Great Plains has reduced soil moisture, impacting cotton production and delaying winter wheat planting. In Oklahoma and South Dakota, winter wheat planting is behind the five-year average due to producers awaiting rain. In Texas, nearly a third of the cotton crop is rated in poor condition, exacerbated by extreme drought. While some farmers hold off on planting, prolonged delays may threaten crop yields. Drought also affects hay production and livestock pastures, with many Texas farmers facing significant challenges.
