Air Liquide has approved the construction of the ELYgator plant for renewable hydrogen production, featuring a 200 MW electrolyzer to be completed by the end of 2027. Located at the Maasvlakte area in the port of Rotterdam, the plant will utilize electricity from North Sea wind farms and is expected to produce 23,000 tons of hydrogen annually for industrial and heavy transport use, reducing CO2 emissions by 300,000 tons per year. The project, with an investment exceeding €500 million, was made possible by new hydrogen regulations and subsidies from the Dutch government and the EU.
