Academy Sports and Outdoors is adapting its sourcing strategy to mitigate tariff impacts, shifting its inventory management and procurement practices. CEO Steven Lawrence indicated that the company has worked closely with suppliers to offset costs and has paused imports from China in response to increasing tariffs, selectively resuming shipments when rates lowered. The retailer has proactively pulled forward $85 million in inventory at pre-tariff prices and reduced its reliance on Chinese sourcing from 9% to an expected 6% by year-end, diversifying its supply chain to countries like Cambodia and Bangladesh.
