In August, the truckload market experienced a slowdown with a decrease in loads following a surge in July driven by tariffs, as per DAT Freight & Analytics. The Truckload Volume Index fell by 8% for dry van and 6% for reefer and flatbed freight, although there was a slight increase in loads during the last week of August due to a safety campaign. Spot rates also declined across all equipment types. Ken Adamo, DAT’s chief analyst, noted that contract rates are facing pressure as contract bidding for 2026 begins, influenced by early import movements and economic conditions.
