Starting January 2026, new railway companies will manage first and last mile traffic in the Antwerp port to enhance freight transport efficiency and increase rail usage. Railport, on behalf of industry and shippers, has been coordinating traffic for conventional single wagon load and block trains since 2024, assigning specific railway companies to designated zones for improved efficiency and accessibility. While areas 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9 will retain their current railway operators due to positive evaluations, a new tendering process will commence in 2026. Railport aims to double rail transport’s share in the port in the coming years.
