Global air freight rates declined in the first week of January, with the Baltic Air Freight Index dropping 3.7% as the peak season ended and volumes decreased. Despite this decline, the index remains 25.9% higher than a year ago. The most significant rate drops occurred on major export routes from China, particularly from Hong Kong and Shanghai. In contrast, rates from Europe to China, Japan, and the U.S. increased, with Frankfurt seeing a notable 19.8% rise. Overall, the outlook for air freight remains positive.
