In the first week of the airline sector’s winter timetable for 2024-25, air cargo rates increased globally, driven by rising rates from Asia Pacific and Europe. Average worldwide rates rose by 2% week on week to $2.71, marking a 12% increase compared to the same period last year. Specific increases included 2% from Asia-Pacific to $3.56 per kilo and 3% from Africa to $1.98 per kilo. Despite the rising rates, tonnages flown decreased globally. Notably, spot rates from mainland China to Europe surged by 12% to $4.68 per kilo, reflecting significant year-on-year growth.
