Walmart is selling its advanced systems and robotics division to Symbotic to enhance its online order fulfillment capabilities. As part of a development agreement, Symbotic will create an AI-driven robotics platform for Walmart’s accelerated pickup and delivery centers, with Walmart investing $520 million to acquire and implement 400 of these centers over several years. The partnership, which has existed since 2017, aims to automate Walmart’s supply chain and improve customer service, with plans to extend technology access to the broader retail market after a 12-year exclusivity period.
