U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has postponed implementing a new automated system that would reject de minimis shipments exceeding the $800 daily exemption threshold, originally set for September 28, until at least February. This decision follows feedback from the trade community. Starting January 11, CBP will begin warning importers when shipments approach the limit, with automated rejections to follow 30 days later. The de minimis exemption allows goods valued under $800 to enter duty-free, but increased volumes have raised enforcement challenges against illegal goods.
