In October, truck tonnage levels showed improvement after a decline in September, according to the American Trucking Associations (ATA). The advanced Seasonally Adjusted For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index rose to 114.6, following a 1.2% decrease in September. Annually, the October reading remained flat, while the not seasonally adjusted index surged by 8.6% compared to September. ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello noted a gradual recovery since January, with tonnage increasing by 3% and the index improving in three of the last four months, indicating a slow but positive trend in the freight market.
