The latest Trucking Conditions Index (TCI) by FTR shows improvement, with a reading of -1.39 for August, up from -5.59 in July. A TCI above zero indicates a healthy trucking environment, while negative scores reflect pessimistic conditions. The index tracks five key factors: freight volumes, rates, fleet capacity, fuel prices, and financing costs. FTR attributes August’s improvement to declining fuel prices and anticipates that TCI readings will remain mostly negative to neutral through early 2025. Although conditions are expected to improve, challenges like low freight volume and weak rates persist.
