The European Union has decided to pause countermeasures against U.S. tariffs for 90 days to allow for negotiations, as announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. This decision follows U.S. President Trump’s suspension of reciprocal tariffs on the EU. Initially, the EU planned to implement retaliatory tariffs covering a range of products due to previous U.S. duties on steel and aluminum. Von der Leyen warned that if negotiations fail, countermeasures will be enacted, while the EU has also proposed a “zero-for-zero tariffs” deal on industrial goods.
