SK tes, an international battery recycling company, is launching a new facility in the Rotterdam port area to recycle spent lithium batteries, electric vehicle batteries, and production scrap. This plant will recover essential raw materials, including lithium, cobalt, and nickel, thus addressing the rising demand for battery production materials. By extracting ‘black mass’ from used batteries, SK tes aims to reduce environmental impacts from battery disposal and contribute to the Netherlands’ goal of a circular economy by 2050. The facility has an initial processing capacity of 10,000 tonnes per year, with plans for expansion.
