Freight forwarders are collaborating with shippers to adapt to a changing air cargo market as the peak season approaches, according to Xeneta’s Chief Airfreight Officer Niall van de Wouw. E-commerce volumes, particularly exports from China, have surged by 30% this year, indicating strong demand. Van de Wouw warns that Q4 may present a seller’s market due to reduced winter capacity in the Atlantic. Average air cargo rates have risen significantly, with an 11% increase in global demand year-over-year. Companies like DHL Express are implementing surcharges, while others are increasing capacity through new services.
