In the first nine months of 2024, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges experienced a 3% increase in total throughput, reaching 210.5 million tonnes, driven primarily by strong demand for container transport, which rose by 8.9%. The port’s market share in the Hamburg-Le Havre range increased to 30.7%. Despite challenges in general cargo and roll-on/roll-off traffic, the port is investing in sustainable projects, including renewable energy initiatives and infrastructure improvements. CEO Jacques Vandermeiren emphasized the port’s adaptability and commitment to innovation and sustainability amid geopolitical and economic pressures.
