FedEx has enhanced its Memphis World Hub by introducing a new automated sorting facility, the Secondary 25, which spans 1.3 million square feet and can process 56,000 packages per hour. This facility, which automates the handling of over half the hub’s primary sorting operation, features advanced technology such as six-sided package scanners and systems for weighing and dimensioning. While the facility is highly automated, traditional employees still play a crucial role, especially in managing heavy or awkwardly sized packages that robots struggle to handle efficiently.
