Labor peace has been restored at 36 East and Gulf Coast ports in the U.S. following a brief shutdown after the expiration of a six-year contract between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX). A tentative agreement on wages has been reached, extending the Master Contract until January 15, 2025, while negotiations on other issues continue. The ILA had insisted on higher wages and protections against automation, but both parties confirmed that all job actions will cease and work will resume immediately.
