The Rotterdam port is enhancing its ship movement efficiency with a new Geofence system as part of the Just-in-Time sailing project, aimed at reducing CO2 emissions. Starting mid-October, terminal planners and shipping agents will receive notifications when vessels cross a geofence 240 nautical miles around the Maascenter buoy, allowing for improved scheduling and reduced waiting times. The initiative, supported by various stakeholders, has shown potential to decrease fuel consumption and emissions by over 4% during the final journey hours, promoting sustainable port operations.
