Undeclared dangerous goods are becoming an increasing safety threat in air cargo.

The global air cargo and mail supply chain is increasingly threatened by safety and security risks from dangerous goods (DGs), particularly those that are undeclared or misdeclared. The rise in e-commerce and the complexity of supply chains, coupled with incidents involving improvised incendiary devices, have exacerbated these risks. More than 81% of DG incidents reported to IATA involved undeclared items. A layered approach integrating safety and security measures is deemed essential, emphasizing the need for effective coordination and targeted screening to address these vulnerabilities without disrupting operations.
