In August, global air cargo demand rose by 6% year-on-year, following a 5% increase in July, indicating strong market performance even during the summer lull. Despite a moderation in the growth rate of spot prices, which averaged $3.13 per kg—24% above last year—shippers are still facing high costs. The air cargo market remains favorable for carriers, as demand exceeds available capacity, while China’s e-commerce exports to Europe fell 25% due to new EU customs duties. However, a recovery in these volumes is anticipated in the long term.
