Aspera Industries, a Bengaluru-based aerospace startup, has launched its first aircraft, Eureka, an autonomous amphibious plane designed to take off and land on water. The company aims to reduce freight costs significantly, targeting under $1 per tonne-kilometre initially and below 50 cents at scale. Eureka utilizes retractable hydrofoils for improved efficiency and can carry a 1,000-kilogram payload over 2,000 kilometres. Initially focusing on markets in New Zealand, Australia, and Southeast Asia, Aspera plans to build and operate its aircraft in-house while navigating regulatory challenges with the guidance of industry experts.
