In July 2026, Velana International Airport (MLE) achieved its highest monthly cargo volume, handling over 2,000 tonnes, including a record 621 tonnes of sea-to-air cargo since the service's launch in 2024. This month also marked the first sea-to-air shipment from Cambodia, enhancing the airport's connectivity to Southeast Asia. MLE plans to introduce new freighter services, including a route from Penang, Malaysia, and anticipates increased seasonal carrier frequencies. Additionally, the airport will install Explosive Detection System machines to boost efficiency in its cargo terminal for the upcoming Winter 2026/27 season.
