Drone-based healthcare: Pilot initiative arrives at Tangier Island in Virginia.

The Elevating Health Care Access project recently demonstrated the Kite B drone's efficiency in delivering essential medications to Tangier Island, highlighting a health initiative aimed at improving access in remote areas. This event marked the first phase's completion, funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation's SMART Grant, with DroneUp conducting test flights that showcased reduced delivery times. A drone successfully made a 17-mile round trip in 14 minutes, returning with lab samples. Looking ahead, the project plans to secure a Stage II SMART Grant to establish a sustainable delivery service by early 2025.
