Glasgow Prestwick Airport has introduced a direct cargo route to Shanghai Pudong International Airport, enhancing its connections to China and facilitating access for Scottish exporters to a key Asian freight hub. This service coincides with Air China Cargo relocating some of its flights, while still maintaining 11 weekly services to Prestwick. CEO Ian Forgie noted that the route will boost cargo access across mainland China and support e-commerce growth into the UK, especially benefiting Scottish exporters of seafood and other perishable goods. The airport has seen significant cargo growth, handling 15 weekly services to mainland China and over 25 million e-commerce parcels since May 2025.
