Firefly Aerospace has obtained a $75 million subcontract from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory to deliver four drones to the Moon’s south pole for the MoonFall mission, set for launch no earlier than 2028. The Elytra spacecraft will carry these drones, aiding NASA's Moon Base initiative to establish a sustained human presence on the Moon. The drones will survey challenging terrains, identifying resources like water ice for future missions. This project builds on Firefly's previous work under NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services and reflects its commitment to advancing lunar exploration capabilities.
