The Port of Halifax has introduced two new electric rail-mounted gantry cranes at PSA Halifax's Atlantic Hub terminal, marking the arrival of remotely operated yard equipment that enhances capacity, efficiency, and reliability. These cranes allow centralized control, improving safety by minimizing height work and adverse weather exposure, while also increasing operational accuracy. They are expected to reduce carbon emissions by 640 tonnes annually, equivalent to removing 140 cars from the roads. This investment, part of a multi-year initiative, supports faster turnaround times and strengthens Halifax's rail capacity for container transportation across Canada.
