London Gatwick has taken control of the World Cargo Centre to enhance its freight operations and support long-term cargo growth in South East England. This acquisition secures an essential freight hub, responding to increasing demand for air cargo, mainly transported via passenger aircraft to various international destinations. The integration aims to bolster resilience in the cargo network while ensuring operational continuity for current businesses. With the Northern Runway project underway, cargo volumes are projected to rise significantly, potentially creating 167,500 jobs and contributing £2 billion annually to the economy by 2038.
