The International Maritime Organization's Marine Environment Protection Committee wrapped up its 84th session, focusing on global shipping emissions and environmental risks in the Strait of Hormuz. They emphasized rebuilding consensus on the IMO Net-Zero Framework and adopted new measures to reduce air pollution in the Northeast Atlantic, including a stricter Emission Control Area. The Committee also addressed marine plastic litter, proposed regulations for plastic pellet transport, and made amendments to the Ballast Water Management Convention. Future sessions are planned to continue these discussions and initiatives.
