Japan is testing humanoid robots to revolutionize ground handling at airports.

Japan will launch its first demonstration experiment using humanoid robots in airport operations at Haneda Airport in May 2026, led by JAL Ground Service and GMO AI & Robotics Trading. The project, running until 2028, aims to enhance efficiency and lessen reliance on manual labor by utilizing robots for tasks like baggage handling and cabin cleaning. It will involve analyzing current operations and conducting trials to ensure safe integration of robots alongside human workers, addressing labor shortages in the aviation sector while promoting sustainable practices.
