Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is set to upgrade its infrastructure to handle 860,000 tonnes of cargo by 2045 and enhance passenger capacity. The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) hosted a pre-bid conference to discuss the project with potential bidders, emphasizing the aviation sector's economic impact. Principal Secretary Teresia Mbaika highlighted the need for investment in airport infrastructure to support key industries. A second runway is planned to prevent operational disruptions, with modernization efforts starting in 2026, despite protests against a 30-year lease proposal by the Adani Group.
