China has successfully conducted the first flight of its Changying-8 unmanned cargo aircraft, developed by China North Industries Group. This heavy-lift drone, which weighs 7 tonnes and can carry a payload of 3.5 tonnes, completed a 30-minute test flight in Zhengzhou, confirming its flight control and operational systems. Designed for high-altitude and island operations, it can take off and land on short runways and fly over 3,000 km. The drone's versatility includes roles in logistics, reconnaissance, and emergency communications, reflecting China's broader goal to enhance unmanned systems in both civilian and military sectors. Further testing is planned before production begins later this year.
