A 48-hour strike by the Vereinigung Cockpit union, affecting Lufthansa Group, is disrupting flights from March 12 to 13, leading to significant delays and cancellations for passengers. While Lufthansa Cargo aims to maintain over 80% of its freighter flights, some cargo rotations will be canceled. The strike arises from disputes over pilot pensions, shifting from guaranteed benefits to a capital market-based scheme, raising concerns about financial security. By the first day, over 75% of short-haul and 70% of long-haul flights were canceled, although Lufthansa plans to operate more than half of its scheduled passenger flights.
