In 2025, geopolitical changes significantly impacted global air cargo flows, more so than passenger travel, according to Willie Walsh, Director General of the International Air Transport Association. While overall cargo volumes grew by 3.4%, shifts in trade patterns led to a 0.8% decline in air freight between Asia and North America, marking a notable change. Conversely, cargo traffic between Europe and Asia surged by over 10%. Walsh emphasized that these trends reflect broader adjustments in global trade and supply chains, with air cargo being particularly sensitive to geopolitical developments. IATA anticipates continued growth in air cargo in 2026, albeit at a slower rate.
