Ethiopian Airlines Group has begun construction of Bishoftu International Airport, starting on January 10, 2026, with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other dignitaries. The airport aims to enhance Africa's aviation landscape and support the African Continental Free Trade Area. Group CEO Mesfin Tasew emphasized the project's significance for the airline's legacy and the continent's infrastructure needs. The airport is expected to accommodate 60 million passengers annually by 2030, eventually increasing to 110 million.
