Ford Motor Co. and SK On have decided to dissolve their electric vehicle battery joint venture, BlueOval SK, which was initiated in September 2021 as part of an $11.4 billion investment to build battery plants in the U.S. Following the dissolution, Ford will take full ownership of two battery plants in Kentucky, while SK On will operate the Tennessee facility. Despite this change, SK On plans to maintain its partnership with Ford, supplying batteries for future vehicles, and focus on profitable growth by diversifying its customer base. The dissolution is expected to finalize in early 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
