A shortage in the aerospace supply chain is hindering aircraft deliveries and growth.

Aircraft availability is a significant constraint on airline growth, as highlighted by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). While deliveries are expected to improve by 2026, demand will outstrip supply until 2031-2034 due to past delivery losses and a backlog exceeding 17,000 aircraft. Challenges include rising leasing costs, delayed sustainability efforts, and slower fuel efficiency gains. A recent study projects supply chain bottlenecks will cost airlines over USD 11 billion in 2025. IATA recommends enhancing maintenance operations, improving supply chain visibility, and expanding repair capacities to mitigate these issues.
