UPS and FedEx have raised their fuel surcharges amid the holiday shipping season, reflecting ongoing pricing pressures. FedEx's increase, effective immediately, is a 1.5% hike for domestic packages and express services, while UPS will implement a 1% increase starting January 5. These adjustments are based on the rising costs of diesel and jet fuel, with a UPS Ground shipment's surcharge increasing from 20.75% to 21.75% if diesel is priced at $3.85 per gallon. Such surcharges significantly impact shipping costs, benefiting the carriers' financial performance.
