Novelis has resumed operations at its Oswego, New York plant after a fire, its second in three months, and is continuing to supply aluminum sheets to Ford. To mitigate disruptions, Novelis is utilizing its global network. The company plans to strengthen its U.S. supply chain with a new plant in Bay Minette, Alabama, expected to be operational in late 2024. A prior fire had severely damaged the hot mill at Oswego, which is anticipated to be back online by December. Ford has indicated that the aluminum supply issues may impact F-Series truck production by 90,000 to 100,000 units this quarter.
