Walmart is enhancing its operational efficiency through investments in automation within its supply chain, as indicated in its Q3 earnings report. Over 60% of U.S. stores utilize automated distribution centers, significantly improving productivity and reducing shipping costs by around 30%. The company is in the early phases of implementing automation, particularly in fulfillment centers, which are now twice as productive as traditional ones. Walmart has launched several advanced fulfillment centers and reported a nearly 50% increase in store-fulfilled deliveries, with a notable portion being delivered in under three hours.
