UPS and FedEx have temporarily grounded their Boeing MD-11 aircraft fleets following a crash of a UPS MD-11 in Louisville, Kentucky, which resulted in 14 fatalities. The decision, made out of caution and safety, aligns with Boeing's recommendation for a suspension of MD-11 operations while further engineering analysis is conducted. UPS operates 29 MD-11s, while FedEx has 28, and both companies are implementing contingency plans to maintain service. This grounding comes amid ongoing air traffic cuts at U.S. airports due to a government shutdown, potentially impacting air cargo operations.
