The Airforwarders Association (AfA) has urged the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to establish a Federal Cargo Theft and Fraud Task Force due to a reported 80% increase in organized theft and cyber fraud among its members. A survey revealed that identity spoofing and fake carrier schemes are significant threats, highlighting inconsistent enforcement and multi-state barriers as major challenges. AfA's Executive Director proposed a task force including DOT, FMCSA, FBI, and DOJ, alongside a national cargo theft database and stricter regulations, to enhance security in the freight forwarding industry.
