CSX has reopened the enlarged Howard Street Tunnel.

CSX announced the reopening of the expanded Howard Street Tunnel, a crucial $450+ million infrastructure project aimed at modernizing freight rail along the East Coast. This upgrade, a result of collaboration among state, federal, and private partners, will enhance Maryland’s economy and the national supply chain by allowing double-stacked intermodal trains to navigate the I-95 corridor. The project is expected to boost business at the Port of Baltimore by approximately 160,000 containers annually and create over 13,000 jobs, significantly improving freight efficiency and reducing congestion.
