The European Union is set to implement new countermeasures against U.S. tariffs ahead of the August 1 negotiation deadline. The European Commission has approved regulations imposing levies of up to 30% on various U.S. goods, with some duties effective from August 7, and a suspension of scrap metal exports to the U.S. starting September 7. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the preference for a negotiated solution. Meanwhile, U.S. President Trump has proposed reciprocal tariffs, which could rise to 30% for the EU, as ongoing negotiations with other trading partners continue.
