In June, global air cargo spot rates fell for the second month in a row, declining 4% year-on-year as demand was outpaced by capacity for the first time in 19 months, raising concerns for the latter half of 2025. Cargo volumes were stable, increasing only 1%, while capacity rose by 2%. Niall van de Wouw of Xeneta highlighted that economic tariffs are impacting consumer behavior, with many opting to save on non-essential goods. The air cargo sector faces a challenging outlook due to tariffs and reduced consumer confidence, despite a 3% demand growth in the first half of 2025.
