Air cargo demand in May increased by 2.2% despite interruptions in trade.

In May 2025, global air cargo demand increased by 2.2% year-on-year, with international demand rising by 3%. Capacity also grew by 2% overall. IATA's Director General, Willie Walsh, noted this growth despite a significant 10.7% drop in traffic from Asia to North America due to changing U.S. trade policies. The Asia-Pacific region led in demand growth at 8.3%, while North America experienced a decline of 5.8%. Meanwhile, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America saw modest increases in demand, while Africa faced a slight decrease despite rising capacity.
